Football Inspires Survival Then Victory

As all of you know, Ukraine has been defending and fighting for their homeland, their families, their existence against dictator Vladimir Putin and his enslaved Russia ever since February 20, 2014. Yes, for ten years Ukraine has been essentially at war against Russia when they invaded and stole Crimea. Then in February 2022, because most of the international community allowed Putin/Russia to just take Crimea, he and his slaughtering armies and artillery wanted more: the rest of Ukraine. When will the decent, humane world, the freedom-loving world stop Putin? When he invades more of Eastern Europe?

Because this is a footballing blog, I will not go into here the political, international diplomacy, the U.N., the war atrocities committed, etc., regarding the war in Ukraine. But I will share this inspiring fight to defend one’s sovereignty, human rights, and equality both on the international level as well as the sublevels of nation, state/provincial, and familial level, all the way to the football pitch. Please watch this two and half minute trailer about Paramount +’s latest series, Football Must Go On… for their people and families still inside war-torn Ukraine:

There is also another outstanding PBS Frontline documentary about the earliest days and sheer carnage of Putin’s Russia invading Ukraine and Mariupol called, 20 Days In Mariupol. If you’d like watch this on scene documentary footage of exactly what it was like for Ukrainians in those first weeks of Russia’s invasion:

To all the free world, let’s NOT EVER remove or forget our full support for Ukraine’s defense and reclamation of their Crimea and eastern Ukraine—or possibly all of Ukraine if we abandon them!

    • I’m shamefully afraid you might just be right, Brian, should the radical extreme MAGA Repouks win many seats of federal office in 2024. And lazy, indifferent, naïve Dems and some Independents don’t or won’t get out and cast their votes. Too many Americans simply do not understand their civic duties and virtues literally gifted to them—even despite the recent years of MAGA Repouks’ policies of voter suppression and fewer human rights for those who are not wealthy, not hetero, and non-Caucasian. 😔

Both video trailers won’t play in the UK?

      • Sad state of affairs Mr D. The US government can’t just give up on Ukraine because things didn’t go as hoped for this summer. There was one quote on the BBC news from a certain Republican Senator who said the Ukrainians had not stated their ‘end game’. Er, it’s to get the Russian aggressors out of their Country!
Only the first video, the football one, which will not play.

        • Agreed on all points Brian. No surprise there, right? 😉

Dang-it! As I told John Zande below, because I’m not a super techy Guru-hacker or or superhero bypasser of all these international laws, copyrights, etc, I can’t suggest anything else. That’s very disappointing that two GREAT documentaries are not available to all who want it. Sorry my Friend.

  1. First video not available in Canada, could not find it even on YouTube. Watched 20 Days in Mariupol trailer. Don’t know that I could watch the whole movie unless I was tied in a chair. I experienced a different kind of war as a child. I don’t watch war movies, no matter how real they are…
But I have said all along we are letting Ukraine down. Money, arms, aid are not enough. Ukrainians and Russians are dying because of one man’s ego. (Yes, Orca, his ego and nothing else!) We, the democratic nations of the world, hsve to fight alongside the Ukranians to save their way of life, to save Ukraine from total destruction!
Football, I take it, still goes on. It can take soldiers minds off how close they are to death. But football is still a fight, and while people very seldom die playing football it is still like fighting a war — in a socially acceptable way. All sports do that. Which is why we need to stop playing sports, because it validates war. I doubt anyone will agree with me, but if you think about it, every game is a fight for supremacy. War is a violent and deadly fight for supremacy! We should not alow war either!

    • Don’t know why the Paramount + or the YouTube trailer of Football Must Go On wouldn’t be available in Canada. That’s really surprising! Doesn’t Canada support Ukraine too? Or is it Canada doesn’t care for Paramount + and its parent company, ViacomCBS?

But football is still a fight, and while people very seldom die playing football it is still like fighting a war — in a socially acceptable way. All sports do that.

Very peculiar stance rawgod. 😉 From my years in and background in Psych/A&D, I can sort of see what you mean, that this behavior and mindset in sports CAN possibly enable more escalated forms of aggression in certain athletes predisposed to personality disorders. But with respect, I’d have to see all the studies, research, and data tables and results from Sports Psychologists and at least 3-4 very reputable institutions and universities to be wholly convinced. 🙂

      • I’m just stating my opinion, PT. At least you can start to conceptualize what I am saying. I don’t expect anyone to agree with me, but I never care about agreement. I am often 1 against the world. I’m putting it out there just to make some people think.
As for the video, that has nothing to do with Canada, yes we support Ukraine though not as much as I would l0ike — but no one else is either!
Whether a video plays has to do with .icencing in the States. Licencers treat Canada like your poor cousins. A lot of YouTube stuff does not work in Canada

        • Americans got it from their British ancestors, who once thought they owned the world. You may have disliked their politics, but overall you inherited their belief in superiority. No one is superior to anyone. I’m working on a post right now to address that sort of thing. If I ever post it…
